Chapter Two

”This one!” Remus exclaimed, immediately moving down the first. ”First is first class, which is the best, right?” The logic was infallible.

Romulus followed, carefully watching Remus. Remus wasn’t as active as he was. Sure he’d run and play and all of that jazz, but they’d just ran from George’s house and now they were swimming for what felt like forever. He was worried about his younger brother. Despite this, Remus showed no sign of being bothered...in fact...he seemed perfectly fine. Now that Romulus thought about it, he himself felt fine too! What was going on?

”Remus!” He glanced up at a squeak of excitement, only to be confronted by an opening! They were free from the cavern and in a...wide open area. In the distance was a dozen more tunnels to choose from, some clearly dead ends - already collapsed up to the entrance, but that wasn’t the shocking part.

Remus was staring wide eyed. The clearing was lovely. The water was crystal clear, and high up, on the roof of the cavern brilliant light shone brightly. It was almost like the sun - no, the moon. ”I read somewhere, that the moon was created because the sun was lonesome. It willed the moon into existence, but because of its greed, the universe cast a curse to punish it. The sun and the moon could only meet briefly at dusk and dawn, and for the rest of the day, the sun is left to chase after the moon. The moon however, can survive without the sun. It was created to fill a loneliness, and there are a good many people that are lonely.” Remus looked around. ”This cavern is poetic, don’t you think? Beautiful, but still. There’s no fish, perhaps they are hiding. In a place like this, do you think there’d be nothing?”

Romulus stared at his brother. He’d never fully understood his brother’s artistic flair. Appreciated it, sure. It was beautiful. However, it was something that left him baffled and unsure how to answer.

He was about to answer when his gaze caught sight of a lovely shell up ahead, and he darted for it. ”There’s treasures here! Should we collect them?”

Remus laughed, the first genuine laugh of the day. ”Fine fine, we can collect treasures, but then we have to find a way to escape this!” The boys dived deeper into the open space, and began their exploration.
