Chapter Four

So I noticed I copied something wrong in the last one, the intro is from the first tunnel, the rest of it's from the second. Your choice was the second tunnel, so you all went through the second...I just somehow ended up copying part of the first tunnel bit...sorry!

Chapter Three!

The exploration carried on for quite some time, during which they had found half a dozen beautiful shells, iridescent scales, and a pawful of colorful - smooth, rocks. They were running out of room to carry their spoils, and were forced to accept that the remaining treasures must remain in the cavern.

”I guess we should continue on and find our way home.” Remus sighed, the disappointment clear. He eyed the wondrous loot he was leaving behind. Maybe they’d be able to find their way back again, but sadly, they were being forced to leave it this time.

Romulus frowned from his spot across the cavern. He’d seen too much he wanted to take with him! How could he leave it! He grumbled, a bit.

”Fine, fine. Five more minutes, and that’s it.” Remus had put on his responsible brother pants, but only because he was certain it was getting late and their father had to be worried. What had George told him?

Romulus grinned and then darted towards one of the tunnels. ”I swear I saw something REALLY shiny in this one! I have to take it with us!” With that, Romulus disappeared into the tunnel.

Remus shook his head, and started searching around again himself. It was mere moments later that a shout alerted him, and he rushed towards the tunnel that Romulus had gone down.

”We hit the jackpot Remus!” Romulus spun to meet his younger brother as he reached the end of the tunnel. The room he had emerged in...looked strangely used. A bed of sorts in the corner. Half a dozen miscellaneous shells, rocks, and the like were scattered around. Books littered every corner. Drawings were etched into the walls of the room.

Remus’ lips titled down. ”Romulus, we shouldn’t be here I don’t think.” However, despite Remus’ concern, Romulus carried on.

”Look at this! It’s like...a spell book or something!” In his hand was an ancient looking tome, a strange glow emitted from the tome. ”It’s got all kinds of ‘spells’! Like here, listen to this one. It’s called ”The magic of all Hallow’s Eve’. With this spell, you’ll show the world the true excitement of Halloween.” His eyes widened, a goofy grin on his face. ”I love Halloween! Maybe it’ll make George like it!”

”Romulus!” Remus squeeked as his brother opened his mouth and began reciting.

Be free, be free! For just one night
And live your fantasy
Let cares and sorrows all take flight
Tonight, we shall be free!

The whole year long we toil and grind
Our weary lives away
Tonight, we leave it all behind
And misrule comes to play!

And if it costs a princely sum
For such great gaiety?
We’ll pay tomorrow (if it comes)
Tonight, we shall be free!

Remus’ felt his body give a shudder but as Romulus finished the “spell” and nothing happened, he felt the tension leave his body.

”Aww! It was a dud!” Romulus sighed, about to throw the book over his shoulder. It was clearly not a treasure.

”Excuse you, who are you calling a dud? Good sir, I am a genuine antiquarian artifact from a time long before you even thought to be born. Now kindly lower me. I do not appreciate being tossed around like a mere object.”

”Who was that?!” Romulus looked around, frowning, it wasn’t Remus, that was for sure.

”Romulus, t-t-the book!” Remus pointed with his paw. Eyes wide.

Romulus lowered the book and gasped, jerking his hands away. What had once been a tattered old cover, lined with gold stitched text, now contained a face as real as his or Remus’. The book hit the ground with a loud THUD!

”UNF! I do believe I requested that you not drop me.” The book frowned up at the whelp. ”Now then, my name is Mordimer. Mordimer V Icarus. It is a pleasure for you to make my acquaintance I am sure. You are?”

Romulus frowned down at the book, a paw moving forward as it spoke, and POKE!

”OWW! That was my eye! Stop that you---Please stop that.” He cleared his throat, his frown turned to a smile. ”I assure you, I am quite real.”

A smile lit up Romulus’ face. ”This is so cool! A real treasure! I’m Romulus, that’s Remus!” He leaned down, picking the tome back up.

”Indeed, I am a real treasure. What brings you pups to this...neck of the water?” His distaste for his location was clear.

”We got cornered by a mean old rat, and dived into a pond of water and found this cavern! We just...don’t know how to get back out and get home.” Romulus gave a sigh.

Through all of this Remus merely watched. A talking book was unbelievable, and in all honesty, Remus did not trust it. A frown remained on his lips as he watched Romulus carry on, as though the book was his new best friend.

”You wish to leave do you? Why did you not say so sooner? I can assist of course. Nothing is too much for my new friends.” He smiled, the cover flitting open and pointing to the left, then closing again. ”Over there should be an orb that looks like a starry night. If you shake it, a button should appear. Think clearly of where you wish to go, and VOILA! You will be transported there.”

It couldn’t be that easy, distrust flooded Remus as he watched his brother move to follow the books commands. He opened his mouth to object, but Romulus cut him off.

”Ah, hah! Found it.” It was beautiful, truly like nightfall. Pitch black and dark blue with flecks that looked like falling stars danced within it. ”So shake it, like this!” Holding the tome with one hand, Romulus gave the orb a good shake, and sure enough, a button formed on the glass-like surface.

”Exactly.” The tome purred. ”Now think about where you’d like to go, touch your brother and - - something bad is coming, we must hurry! Grab your brother and push the button!”

Romulus’ eyes widened and he swam to Remus. His paw yanking him close.

”Romulus I don’t know if we sho--” Suddenly there was a sound, a voice. It sounded awfully terrifying, and before he could question anything else, a tentacle reached through the entrance of the tunnel. A chill gripped Remus. ”Fine let’s go!” He whimpered.

Just as Romulus pushed on the button, into view came a beast. Tentacles, and cuts, and a light protruding from his head. A loud, anguished, scream escaped it’s toothy jowls as everything shimmered away.
