Chapter Twelve

Previous Chapter The day was edging by, and Romulus had been having a blast flipping through the pages of Mordimer. The spells he held within his cracked, old, covers were amazing, and he was full of wonderful knowledge. Somehow, learning like this, wasn't boring. He hadn't tried anymore spells, but had discussed a few of the more "spicy" ones with the tome. He suddenly understood how Remus felt when he was learning something new. With thoughts of Remus, Romulus realized that it was well into the afternoon and he'd yet to see hide nor hair of his little brother...or anyone else for that matter. "Maybe we should close up and go look for Remus. It's weird that he hasn't returned yet." Romulus frowned at the door to their shop. Even when he was at his maddest, Remus would forgive quickly and hurry back once something bothered him. It never took this long. 'I am sure the young lad is fine, but if you insist. It's been an incredibly quiet day after all.' The tome gave a low hmmm, and let his pages flip to a close. Romulus closed up the shop, ensuring first that all of the pets enclosures were fully locked. He didn't want to come back to a mess tomorrow - though, at least now he had a quick way to fix things! He began down the trail, in the direction of the other shops. It was surely only a matter of time before he found someone...and yet, as he passed shop after shop, he came to the realization that no one was inside any of the shops...they were all empty. Like a ghost town. "It's so weird...they never close like this. Maybe it's an elaborate prank?" Romulus murmured more to himself than Mordimer. He sighed, shaking his head before turning to look down to the tome he carried. "Guess we're going to the library, that's one of Remus' frequent haunts." 'As you wish, lead the way.' It's not like he could go anywhere on his own, after all...no feet...or legs...or a body. So he was trapped going wherever this little mini--err, lad took him. "You'll like it there, there's lots of great books...you like to read right? I mean...after all, you are a book..." What did lifelike books like to do for fun? Mordimer gave a snort. 'Sure, something like that can be fun.' They reached the library after a small trek, and entered. Inside...was a disaster. Books were everywhere, the shelves were bare, and Romulus felt as though the floor dropped out from under him. What had happened here? Where was Remus? "W-what?" He was at a loss for words as he looked from space to space. Each area he looked at was worse than the last. THUD! THUD! THUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUD! Romulus jerked, scanning the surroundings, nothing, just consistent thudding. 'Heh, look up.' Mordimer gave a low laugh. His gaze floated up, and on the second floor, smacking into the shelves, creating a giant mess, was a large bird like creature. Fair haired, pale skinned - almost like a human, but as it's head met it's neck, feather's littered their body, and wings stretched the span of like...ten of him. From the mouth of the beast loud shrieks broke the thudding. "Where are they?!" Almost sobbing. It made Romulus' fur stand on end. "Wha--" As though suddenly alerted to his presence, the beast spun in the direction of him, shrieking loudly, and swooped. MINIGAME ALERT: READ ALL OF THE RULES, SOME THINGS HAVE BEEN CHANGED! 1. There was a lot of issues with this in past contests, and I've got a video heading to Estu showing the proper way to do this, just a matter of getting it uploaded. 6. As with all of our games like this, you may only enter once per person. Multiple entries, if caught, will result in a disqualification. And I do check from time to time, be honest folks. 7. Some of these are two words - and using the generator I did, it did NOT include the spaces in the answer, so please be aware that for this crossword, everything is condensed down to no spaces. 8.
