The screeching caused Romulus to flinch, dropping Mordimer and slamming his paws over his ears. It was as though his eardrums were about to burst from the sheer force of her pitiful cries.

The door to the library burst open, not that Romulus noticed as he curled in a ball, hands pressing against his ears to try and protect them.

"Quick! Repeat after me, you have to be the one to summon them back." Byssus' tentacle stretched out shoving between the Harpy and the pup, applying force to press the beast back. "She's losing her hold on reality." They were losing time hunting down the townsfolk one by one. They'd already found a pawful, and there was still more to be found.

"No need, I've got it memorized by now!" Remus shouted back before immediately turning to Elizabeth.

"Come back, come back! The cost's to great
To stray far from the pack
Let our voice reach you, don't be late
Elizabeth, you must come back!

Back to your life and to your home
And to your rightful mind
Tonight you got to go and roam
Now leave that all behind!

Tomorrow's right around the bend
This is no time to slack
It's time this spell came to it's end
Elizabeth, you must come back!"

Written by Emgeal, 27879

Remus felt his voice explode forth to be heard over her screeches, confidence flooded that he'd never before had a chance to feel. With Byssus before him to protect him if need be, Remus had no doubt that they would succeed.

The Harpy spun to them, and with one final screech, her form began to crack, first a small fissure at the spot where her heart was, and then continuing, inch by inch, across the rest of her body. Once it'd taken over her whole form, the shattering snapped, exploding into a million little pieces in the air around her, shimmering and reflecting the light beautifully as she shed the Harpy skin.

Her form started falling. "Elizabeth!" Remus shouted, stepping forward. He needn't have worried though. She was caught in a tentacled grasp and lowered, carefully to the ground.

"There you are little lass." Byssus' pulled the tentacles away as her rump gently met the solid wood of the library floor.

"W-what happened? Where's my glasses?" Elizabeth's gaze danced around the blurry objects before her, paw tapping the floor.

"Let me help with that."

Reveal thyself and come forth."

Where Mordimer's spells had a colorful flourish, it seemed that Byssus preferred simpler, to the point spells. There was a glimmer near the front desk, and suddenly her glasses whipped through the air, producing themselves before their owner.

Elizabeth carefully took them. "Ah thank yo---my library..." She breathed, eyes widened in horror as she took in the mess.

Remus flinched. "We'll help you clean up." He whispered, guilt gnawing at him as he looked around, taking in the mess that he and Romulus had caused.

Speaking of Romulus---the pup still had his ears covered, eyes tightly closed. Remus moved towards him.

"Rom?" His paw poked at the still body of his brother.

"Look who returned. What an annoyance." Mordimer sighed.

Remus glared at the book, but stopped as Romulus moved. "Rom!"

"What happened?" His head was throbbing from the screaming beast.

"You met Harpy Elizabeth without knowing the spell to reverse her Harpy form. It could have been dangerous. It's getting late, and the later it gets, the closer to losing their true selves our friends get. Mordimer lied to us. He's not as friendly as he seems. That spell turned all of our friends into scary beasts, and if we don't reverse them before midnight, we lose them." Remus felt his lip tremble. "I've only managed to find five others and now Elizabeth. We need to find the rest. It's getting late."

Romulus stared at Remus, straight down to how he contained himself even as his lip trembled, something had changed. "Who are you?" He frowned. Where was his scared of everything little brother? Now he watched as the tentacled beast moved forward and Remus didn't even flinch - in fact, he watched as Remus gave him a wide smile.

"This is Byssus, he's been helping me." Byssus gave a nod towards the other pup.

"It seems that you're the troublemaker." He eyed Romulus, watching as the pup squeaked and seemed to pull back slightly. "Well, it's fine, just help your brother fix things, and stop using this fools spells. They all come with nasty reprecussions. Mordimer was never known for his compassion so his spells reflect that by not caring who they hurt. He also really liked mischief." Byssus shook his head. "But enough of that. We're losing time."

"Right!" Remus stepped up. "I need paper, Elizabeth."

"Uhh..." She looked around, clearly overwhelmed. "Try the desk?" She winced at the mess.

He moved to the front desk, scavenging until he found paper and a pen, and began scribbling. He returned with two sheets, one was handed to Elizabeth and the other to Romulus.

"We have no time, all hands on deck. This is the reversal spell. Pay attention to key factors - fur or hair color, eye color, objects around them, location, ect. You MUST identify them with their true name to provide a connection back to this world for their soul. We can't afford to fail. Got it?" Remus gave the two a firm look.

"G-got it!" Elizabeth gave a nod.

"B-bu---"

"No buts. Irresponsibility is what got us into this Rom. We must fix it."

Romulus gave a nod, eyeing the others.

"How touching." Mordimer muttered, clear sarcasm dripped from his words.

"Quiet you." Byssus reached down, yanking the book up. "Why don't you return home before me."

To home with you.

His words were clear, short, and to the point, and a second later, a crack appeared and in that crack, the underwater cavern appeared. Byssus shoved Mordimer through, the whole time Mordimer shouted out his protests, but was ignored.

"Now, lets get to work." He shooed everyone into action.

- - - - SOME TIME LATER - - - -

He was out of breath as he rounded up on the clearing. A large group had gathered, and as he stepped out of the foliage, they turned to him.

"Who are we missing?" Remus gasped for air. He'd never been the sporty brother. Romulus, looked composed and as though the running around for hours wasn't any big deal. He however, felt exhausted.

"Everyone is here except for George." Apollo's brows furrowed as he spoke. "If what you say about the situation is true, we've got less than ten minutes to find him."

Remus gulped, staring at Romulus. "We must find him."

There was a collective affirmative sound from the large group, and quickly they dispersed. Those with wings, took to the air, those without scattered, all shouted out Georges name.

Remus turned towards Romulus. "What do we do if we can't find him?"

"That's not an option, right?" Romulus wasn't about to deal with the guilt of losing George forever.

"Tick tock." Byssus stated.

"Isn't there a spell to find him?" Romulus frowned towards the tentacled beast.

"Of course, but spells are what got you into this mess, so you should use your own brains to find a way out of it."

"Even if it means sacrificing George? He's just a foolish old man who loves his bricks. He never hurt anyone." Romulus stomped his paw at Byssus. He was beyond impressed with the way that Remus stared at him - as though he were some sort of hero, or something.

"WAIT, ROM THAT'S IT!" Remus spun, taking off.

Byssus gave a chuckle as Romulus glared and took off after Remus. "By golly, I think they figured it out, finally." He muttered, following the two at a leisurely pace.

TICK. TOCK. TICK. TOCK.

Remus felt as though his lungs were going to burst as they rounded up on Georges cave. His bricks were scattered everywhere, and as they neared, they heard whining.

Tufts of green and black hair littered the the clearing before his cave. There was no doubt that this was where George was.

"Why would he return here?" Romulus whispered, not wanting to attract attention as they closed the gap between themselves and the beast.

"He's a simple, old man. Who loves his bricks more than anything. He'd return where he felt safe and comfortable." Remus grinned.

Why hadn't they thought to look here first? Who knew!

They moved to enter the cave, only to be met by a fierce growl.

"Remus, say the spell. I'll distract him!"

Romulus dove into action, diving past the claws that swiped at him. Behind him he could hear Remus chanting.

Come back, come back! The cost's to great To stray far from the pack Let our voice reach you, don't be late George, you must come back! Back to your life and to your home And to your rightful mind Tonight you got to go and roam Now leave that all behind! Tomorrow's right around the bend This is no time to slack It's time this spell came to it's end George, you must come"

Somewhere in the distance, a clock chimed, noting the stroke of midnight.

"back!"

His last word was a shriek as he realized he hadn't finished the spell in time. Tears frorming as he waited for the cracking, the fissuring, and yet...all he saw was Romulus, diving to and fro, dodging the claws of a beast who was too far gone to save.

"It's too late." He whispered, tears forming. He'd failed, they'd failed. It was all their fault.

George, an imp that thrived in numbers and simplicity. A Waja who merely wanted to surround himself with good bricks and peace. Remus watched as he was littler more than a monster now, and he felt it, a tightening in his throat as words were lost and he choked for air.

Tears welled. What could they do now? Nothing. Byssus had been very clear that they had until midnight...only until midnight, and now they had no other options.

"Please." His gaze was on Byssus. Surely..he could...

Byssus gave a sorrowful look, shaking his head. "Mordimer's rules are very...very...clear." He whispered. "My powers can't touch this."

A sorrowful whine broke from Remus as he turned back to Romulus and George.

George...gave another swipe, and something in Remus spurred him forth. It wasn't courage. He wasn't a courageous pup. It was more akin to pain and sorrow.

His form tackled the oversized werewaja. Tears streaming from his eyes, as he wailed.

You are George! Not this beast! Come back to us. You like bricks. You like restoring electronics. You like theme tunes! You are GEORGE!

Tears streamed on the form of were George as Remus shrieked at the top of his lungs.

Romulus and Byssus watched as colors exploded from Remus, every shade under the rainbow expanded from his form to engulf George.

"Would you look at that?" Byssus whistled, shaking his head.

The lights burned brightly, and when they dimmed, George - the real George - lay with a wailing Remus on top of him, looking very much confused and concerned.

"Why are you blubbering?" He grumbled frowning at the pup and then the spectators. "What is going on?"

"George!" Remus screeched, clutching the Waja, and was soon joined by Romulus.

"What is happening?" He muttered, eyeing the tentacled beast for an answer.

Byssus merely shrugged, chuckling.

- - - - SOME TIME LATER - - - -

"I thought you said you couldn't turn him back?" Remus frowned at Byssus as they made their way to the clearing, George and Romulus in front.

"That was not me." Byssus stated plainly. "Magic is all about desires. I feel nothing for your friends, so I could never have changed them back. That's why you and your brother had to. You love and care for these people. Likewise, I couldn't turn back time to save him once the midnight timeline had passed. That was entirely your will. Everyone is capable of magic - some just see magic as miracles." He watched the dou before him. "You have a passion unlike that of a normal person. You think and feel in a world of color. This is a powerful ally if you were to walk the path of a magic user. It means you feel and desire things far stronger than that of an average Waja...which means your magic could overwhelm that of even an old entity like Mordimer."

He stopped walking, turning towards the pup. "Your love for George, and your desire to have him back was far stronger than Mordimer's desire for chaos and mischief. You did well pup." His tentacle came forth and patted Remus on the head. "Here I was thinking you were little more than a pup who was afraid, and yet, you're clearly far stronger than anyone gives you credit for. Never be afraid to stand up for what you believe in. Your convictions are good pup."

Remus felt his face heat up in embarrassment. He glanced ahead. "Will you visit?"

Byssus gave a click of his tongue. "Maybe, if I am bored." He gave a toothy grin. "Go ahead, celebrate the safe return of all of your friends Remus. I'll see you again, I'm sure."

Remus watched as Byssus shimmered and then vanished. "I'll see you again, not so scary Byssus." He muttered before running ahead to rejoin his brother and George.
